Without a doubt, the first thing that comes to mind when someone says Paris is “La Tour Eiffel”. You can’t visit Paris without going to see this famous symbol of the city of lights. Before knowing the history behind this recognized icon, I couldn’t wait to have the Eiffel Tower in front of me so I could take the perfect picture of it and show it to everyone, ignoring the real reason of its making. Later after learning the history behind this masterwork, I couldn’t understand why Parisians were not fanatics of the final results of this piece of art. For me, it is one of the most stunning piece of architecture I have seen in my life. The first time I got to see the Eiffel Tower was on France’s Independence Day: a very special day for French people. We went and sat in front of it for ten hours strait, so we could see the famous fireworks event that happens in commemoration of the special day. I was more than speechless by the stunning architecture and events that where going on. I felt excitement inside when I saw the fireworks and lights; it was a very magnificent event. Seeing thousand of people getting together in front of this famous icon to celebrate their Independence made me realize that I didn’t have the right concept of this icon and what it really represented. For me, it represents the begging of a new era where science and technology came together. It represents the liberty and independence gained after the revolution. Everyone has its purpose of visiting this place; some go there to take a picture near it while others take pictures of the structure and vistas of the city. I personally can say that before knowing the history behind it, I was one of those persons that only wanted a picture near the tower so I could post it through my social network pages. After learning its history, I went up those stairs and admired the architectural wonders of the city. Seeing how this monument can bring together so many different cultures form all over the world in the same place amazes me so much. Who would of thought that this piece of art that wasn’t even meant to stay up for the rest of time and wasn’t even wanted at the beginning would become so famous throughout all time?
