The visit to the enormous Versailles castle was one of the most exhausting, yet amazing excursions I had during the whole trip. Just seeing the castle from miles away, you knew it was going to be more than beautiful inside. Being inside made me feel like I was a princess in a fairytale. The landscape gardens are one of the most enormous and beautiful places I have ever seen. This palace started as a hunting lodge for King Louis XIII not for which later it became the home of other kings. This palace is known for its amazing gardens and salons inside the castle. Even though there where many tourist and I wasn’t able to admire like I would have wanted to, I cannot deny that the rooms were beautiful. The paintings on the ceilings, the beautiful hallways, and all types of decorations were stunning. The famous hall of mirrors and striking chandeliers made the room opulent. One of the other rooms that caught my attention was the “Salon of Hercules,” which was the waiting room for the people who wanted to see the King. This room has an amazing fresco painting in the ceiling the “Apotheosis of Hercules” by François Lemoyne. It illustrates Olympus waiting for Hercules after having become a God. Another famous salon is the “Salon of Abundance” just as the name says it is it of “abundance”. Here, the King showed his guest his precious collections of silverware vases, and metals. It its ironic that the king created a hide out to escape his obsessive creation. Making the Grand Trianon, which is very extravagant, made for his escape with his mistress.
Marie Antoinette’s estate was one of the parts of this castle that amazed me. It was so big and pretty; now I understand the reason why she loved it so much. It is also ironic how it would be her kind of royal escape. This type of lifestyle guaranteed that the royalty were completely out of touch with the peasant. Just like now a days some politicians can be towards poor people. While roaming around the castle, I didn’t notice any revolutionary artifact. It shows instead how it is about extravagance, with the paintings, enormous gardens, and many more luxuries. Visiting Versailles was a great eye-opener to the real way the king and queen lived, and how they were ignorant of their people, making the people get tired of their acts, which lead logically their own people to revolt against them for their liberty and freedom.
